The Hypocrisy of Senator Schumer

Republican Senator George Allen conceeded defeat Thursday to Democrat Jim Webb.  In a gracious concession speech, Allen said that the "...owners of the government have spoken and I respect their decision."

Allen did the honorable thing and chose not to demand a recount.  "I do not wish to cause more litigation that would not alter the results," said Allen.  He added that he saw "no good purpose being served by continuously and needlessly expending money and causing any more personal animosity."

New York Senator Charles Schumer called on Allen as early as Wednesday morning to do the honorable thing and conceede defeat, adding that is was best for the country not to challenge Tuesday's election results.  Funny, I don't remember Senator Schumer offering such advice to Vice President Gore after he lost Florida in the 2000 Presidential election.

Should we be surprised by the hypocrisy shown by Senator Schumer?  The answer, of course, is no.  Liberal elites like Senator Schumer believe that they know what is best for everyone, especially when what is best for others benefits them or the causes that they support.
